Tips for ECAT
Start preparing Parallel F.Sc
Syllabus for test and F.Sc is almost the same
There is a large degree of overlap between the syllabuses of ECAT and F.Sc. Most of the concepts, formulas, and diagrams in the ECAT are taken directly from the F.Sc syllabus.
It is a smart strategy to use your pace while preparing for F.Sc to direct it towards ECAT preparation too. This will help you ensure that your concepts stay strong up until the ECAT.
Focus on concepts- rote learning will not work!
However, this also means that you will have to modify the way that you prepare for the F.Sc. No more will be cramming and rote learning help you because even if you make it past the F.Sc,
it will be impossible for you to retain those concepts and apply them in the ECAT exams. But this also means that if you work smartly enough, then all the time you spend practicing past papers,
calculations and graphical diagrams, will be worth double as it helps you excel in the ECAT. This also explains why even though there are a lot of different books on ECAT practice, you will be
sufficiently covered with only a few books.
Practice past papers regularly
ECAT Preparation Material
To prepare for ECAT we would suggest you to use this online test preparation service Time Management is key.
With extremely limited time, the only way you can perform to your maximum is if you have practiced it a thousand times before. You cannot afford to enter the exam hall unprepared. The key to
master this is by doing past papers over and over again. There are four subjects so that means tons of past papers to practice from.
STARS UET, NUST PAST PAPERS
It is recommended to take a systematic approach to this. Also make sure to time yourself, and judge your performance against the time allotted to you. Are you unable to complete the paper in time?
Is there a concept that you waste way too much time on? It is crucial for you to evaluate yourself and cover your weak points. Visit this link to find ECAT past papers from 2004 to 2020:
Take a systematic approach to ECAT preparation
Don’t practice blindly without a plan
To overcome the huge amount of past papers that you need to have on your fingertips, you need to make a schedule for practicing them. If your approach is random, then you will waste a lot of time and
effort without even realizing it! Firstly, you should do some general practice to make sure that you can perform under time pressures on exam day, and have memorized the approach to test-taking. But
that is not enough. Figure out what you’re weak at
You also need to do loads of specific practice. The key is to have self-awareness, by realizing what your strengths and weaknesses are. Maybe trigonometry is something that you always struggle in. Maybe
English grammar has never been your strong suit. But this should not scare you. Because this is where your specific practice will help you. Pay extra emphasis on these topics in not only the past papers
but also internet questions if you run out of past paper questions.
Stress management
Don’t panic
To perform optimally during the ECAT exam under the time pressure, you need to be in the right space mentally. Do not overthink and do not spend more time on any one question if you cannot figure it out,
because then you are eating up time from other questions. If you have prepared well in advance, if you have put yourself under the exercise of past papers with the same time limits, then you will feel a
great sense of confidence during the paper.
Subject wise tips for ECAT
ECAT English Section
In the English section of ECAT, a variety of English concepts are tested. Analogies, sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms, sentence correction, and reading comprehension are some of the major types.
You should prepare for all these types. Sample MCQs can be found in ECAT preparatory books as well as past papers. If you have a lot of time before the ECAT exam, then it is strongly recommended to start
reading on a daily basis. This can include any random article or book, and it does not have to be for long periods, but make sure you make it a consistent habit.
ECAT Maths tip
For the Maths section, all the concepts are linked together, and they build on top of each other. If there is a concept that you find difficult, do not ignore it thinking that it won’t be tested much
because it might be needed in solving another question that could be heavily tested. Make sure you perform your practice without a calculator because it will not be allowed in the ECAT.
ECAT Physics Syllabus
The following are some of the topics that will be included in the Physics portion of the exam. Make sure you pay equal attention to all of them and focus on building strong concepts
